We've survived the weekend without our confinement lady around. But that said, we were waking up many times in the middle of the night with each sound that Faith makes, just to check if she's alright. As with many an anxious parent, we were so tired out the next day and zonked out.
For the last few days, we've been having problems getting Faith to latch on for breastfeeding properly. Most of it was because she's easily agitated when she's hungry and rather impatient when she can't latch on. So, the current method that we've used and that seemed to work for her, is that I will express into a bottle and feed her some first. Let her rest for 1/2 hour or so before she manages to successfully latched on for breast feeding.
This seemed rather contrary to what most breastfeeding experts would recommend, as they would say that the baby would be confused between suckling at the breast and the bottle. But we have found this to be the least stressful because when she's agitated, she would yell her lungs out and cry a lot. However, when she's got a little something in her stomach, she would be in a better temperament and more amenable to suckling longer and better at the breast. Overall, it would also mean that she consumes more milk in total.
For now, we're keeping our fingers crossed on this method and hope it would work out. Personally, I'm rather apprehensive as every day presents a different or new challenge, and what works one day might not work the next day.
Till then, I'm really trying hard to persevere with breastfeeding :)

HI Eve ~~ what you wrote brought back so many memories of my gal. Yea, we also (esp me) will wake up every time she moves... she's not awake but we are! those days were tiring but I kinda enjoy 'em because i would rather be tired than not looking at her in case anything happen.
Keep up the good job in your bf... an ex-colleague, quinnie (astee also knows her) told me that during the initial mths of staying home, esp the 1st mth, I will be like a cow. keep feeding and feeding non-stop... hahah how true it was!
Take care now.
